Zion – Today John Idleburg announced his candidacy for Lake County Sheriff. Citing a series of leadership by the current Sheriff, Idleburg says there is a need for change. With his having served his entire career in law enforcement, Idleburg is well qualified to make those changes. John understands directly the importance of serving and protecting others.
“Over the years we have seen a long series of tragic mistakes. These include wrongful death which has cost us taxpayers millions in settlements. This is unacceptable for the People of Lake County,” says Idleburg. John attributes this to a failure of leadership. “As Lake County Sheriff, I will make sure our excellent professional men and women who wear the uniform every day have the training and resources they need to act with both compassion and wisdom,” says Idleburg.
John served in the United States Marine Corps, Lake County Sheriff’s Office as Deputy in the Zion Work Release Camp, Great Lakes Police Department including Detective Bureau, Special Investigator with the U.S. Department of Defense and Special Agent with the U.S. Treasury Department. In his capacity with the Federal Government, John served as security detail for Hillary Clinton and Tipper Gore at the Democratic National Convention in 1996, served at the United Nations and the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.
“To be effective as Sheriff and to do the job justice on behalf of the citizens requires leadership that is rooted in taking responsibility and leading by example. That is how I have always done it and wouldn’t have it any other way,” says Idleburg.
John added that he is honored by the support he has received from the community, and will match that by working diligently as Sheriff.
“Lake County is one of the finest places to live. As Sheriff I will make the reforms that are absolutely needed, support our men and women in uniform and will ensure that we effective law enforcement performing at full capability for our Lake County Community,” says Idleburg.
